Client: Project with Pixel & Dot My Role:

  • Lead Illustrator

  • Lead Motion Designer

I recently collaborated with Pixel & Dot to create a full suite of illustrated assets for an educational platform that supports students through both in-person and online tutoring.

The brief was simple but meaningful:bring warmth, clarity and a human touch to the platform through static illustrations and icons.

Education can often feel clinical or overly serious online, so the goal was to soften the experience, guiding the viewer’s eye, helping them navigate information quickly, and making the brand feel approachable and people-focused. The beginning of the process looked like this:

  • Trying different colours, getting variation

  • Adding in background elements to give depth and making it feel like they're in a home, not a school

I enjoyed creating different versions so much, so I just kept going...

Here are some icons!

This involved lots of experimentation (maybe too much!)

All artwork was designed to feel friendly, loose and human — with textured strokes and soft, flexible shapes that reflect the supportive environment the platform offers. Everything was then vectorised for seamless use across digital screens.

Next, I animated the hero animations. It was important that they looped seamlessly and had those tiny micro-movements that make a scene feel alive. Animation really is where the personality kicks in, it’s what turns a static brand element into something human.

Outcome

This combination of animation and illustrations makes key information easier to digest, keeps users engaged for longer, and adds a sense of care and professionalism to the brand. For a tutoring platform, that translates directly into stronger trust, clearer communication of services, and a smoother journey for both parents and students exploring their options.
