The Mission

I was brought on to create motion design for an episode of The Diary of a CEO, focused on dopamine and behaviour. The goal was to develop visually engaging animated overlays that clarified complex ideas and added rhythm and energy to the episode.

My Role

  • Designed and animated on-screen graphics and explainer segments

  • Translated key parts of the dialogue into clear visual metaphors and supporting motion

  • Collaborated with the internal DOAC team to align visuals with their evolving video style

Why It Mattered

The content in this episode touched on nuanced scientific ideas about how dopamine works in the brain. My animations helped break down those concepts in a way that felt clear, approachable, and visually consistent with the rest of the DOAC brand.

I adhered closely to the collage-like animation style established by the team, ensuring every element aligned seamlessly with the overall creative vision.

Creative Approach

I used bold typography, simple shapes, and layered textures to create a style that felt both smart and accessible. The animation needed to slot in smoothly over B-roll and interview footage, so timing and balance were key. Each visual was designed to feel informative but never overwhelming.

What Stood Out

  • Supported a fast-moving edit with graphics that enhanced clarity and tone

  • Helped communicate technical information in a trendy but digestible way

  • Adapted to the show’s high-quality production workflow and turnaround

Reflection

This project gave me the chance to work on a high-profile, fast-paced production while still focusing on thoughtful design. It was a great example of how motion graphics can quietly elevate content and make complex topics easier to follow.
