The Mission
The Donkey Sanctuary, working with agency ArthurLondon, launched an emotionally powerful campaign to raise awareness of the mistreatment of donkeys around the world. The animation’s purpose was to tell a story, shift public perception, and inspire action by putting empathy at the heart of the message.
My Role
- Help with storyboarding and visual development
- Collaborating with the creative team to align visuals with the campaign’s emotional tone as well as the visuals created Grave Parker
- Character animation and transitions (see below for exact shots)
Shots I worked on
Creative Approach
The animation combined a hand-drawn style with textures and a warm, emotive approach, balancing sensitivity and impact. The animation followed a donkey’s journey, using simple symbolism like colour changes and changing environments to express hardship and hope. Transitions were key to keeping the story fluid and reflective.
What Made It Stand Out
- Emotion-led animation that treated the subject with care and respect
- Visual storytelling that held emotional weight without relying on heavy narration
- Smooth transitions and considered pacing that supported the narrative flow
Why It Mattered
As the flagship piece of the ‘Stop the Slaughter: End the Donkey Skin Trade’ campaign, the animation successfully raised awareness, resonating with audiences and driving action to support The Donkey Sanctuary’s mission.
This project was one I truly believed in. It challenged me to animate and design with sensitivity and contribute to something very meaningful. I’m always excited by work where design and storytelling can help create a more compassionate world.
